These are the main units that detect nearby emergency service radio activity. Need an antenna, display, mount or replacement cable? The car ahead reacted erratically, and suddenly a situation I had nothing to do with put me at risk. It made me think how useful an earlier warning could be.

That’s what drew me to Target Blu Eye. It alerts you to nearby emergency service radio activity, including from marked and unmarked police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines. An alert gives you a cue to check your mirrors, take in the situation and adapt your driving calmly.

The saying goes, you never know what’s around the corner, but with this device, you do.

Is Target Blu Eye legal in the UK?

Yes. Target Blu Eye detects short signals transmitted by emergency service radios. It does not listen to or decode conversations, and it does not tell you which service is nearby.

What value do you put on your licence, your vehicle and your safety? For me, the value is in being more aware of what’s happening on the road and having a little more time to respond.

Looking for a police car detector or speed camera detector?

Drivers searching for a police car detector, radar detector, laser detector or speed camera van detector often want more awareness of what may be happening ahead. Target Blu Eye takes a different approach: it detects nearby emergency service radio activity, including activity from equipped marked or unmarked vehicles, and gives you a prompt to look around and respond safely. It does not detect radar or laser signals, identify speed cameras or camera vans, or show the exact location of a vehicle. For drivers considering older detection equipment, it offers a different kind of road awareness rather than a direct replacement for a camera database or radar detector.

Product use and limitations

Target Blu Eye is an emergency vehicle awareness system. It is not a speed camera detector or a means of avoiding fines or licence points. Alerts depend on a suitable radio transmitting within range, so the system cannot warn of every vehicle or situation. Always observe the road, follow traffic laws and drive to the conditions. Set up the unit before you travel; do not handle or adjust it while driving.

Emergency vehicle awareness you can move between cars

Target Blu Eye GO suits drivers who want a portable system without a permanent installation.
