## Understanding the 300HP Sea-Doo Supercharger: Maintenance, Rebuild Options & Common Failures
On pre-2022 machines, we have seen multiple cases of **supercharger turbine wheel failure**.
When failure occurs, it often results in:
* Catastrophic casing damage
* Housing distortion
* Complete assembly write-off
At present, we do not offer a viable repair solution for severely damaged housings — these units are disposed of.
Why Do the Wheels Fail?
While not officially confirmed by the factory, contributing factors may include:
**1. Corrosion from Poor Winterisation**
Improper storage procedures can leave moisture in the air intake system. Over time, this may cause corrosion on the cast aluminium impeller wheel. Many failed units show visible pitting or sections missing from the fins.
**2. High RPM Mapping**
Performance tunes and high-RPM maps increase centrifugal forces acting on the impeller. Greater rotational speeds increase stress at the blade tips, which may contribute to a higher rate of wheel failure.
**3. Blade Fragmentation**
If part of a fin breaks away at high RPM, the imbalance can cause the wheel to:
* Violently stop
* Contact the compressor housing
* Deform or shatter further
Once this occurs, secondary damage is almost always severe.
## Why Inspection Matters
At high RPM, the supercharger impeller experiences extreme centrifugal loading. Even small imperfections, corrosion pits, or imbalance can multiply stress forces significantly.
This is why we strongly recommend:
* Careful winterisation
* Avoiding excessive RPM tunes without supporting modifications
* Reducing inspection intervals if running a rebuilt unit
Preventative maintenance is significantly less expensive than replacing a failed assembly.
* 300HP Sea-Doo superchargers are classified as non-serviceable by the manufacturer
* At 200 hours, units must be replaced if out of spec
* New superchargers available for same-day shipping
* Genuine Rotax & WSM rebuild kits in stock
* We recommend 100-hour inspection intervals for rebuilt units
* Pre-2022 turbine wheel failures can cause catastrophic damage
